Let's dive into the basics of how to play Finnish Skittles and why it should be your next go-to game.
What is Scatter?
Scatter is a game of skill, precision, and a bit of luck, suitable for all ages and skill levels. Some say it originated in Finland and is played with 10 numbered wooden pins and a throwing pin. The objective is to be the first player or team to score exactly 50 points without exceeding it.
Setting Up the Game
Find a Playing Area: Scatter can be played on grass, sand, or any flat surface. Choose a spot with enough space for the pins to be scattered and for players to stand at a distance.
Arrange the Pins: The 10 pins are set up in a tight formation, approximately 3-4 meters (10-13 feet) away from the throwing line. The pins should be placed in a specific order:
First row: 4 pins (1, 2, 3, 4)
Second row: 3 pins (5, 6, 7)
Third row:2 pins (8, 9)
Fourth row: 1 pins (10)

The Throwing Line: Mark a throwing line, from which all players will throw the throwing pin.
How to Play
Determine the Starting Player: You can choose the starting player by drawing lots, rock-paper-scissors, or any preferred method.
Take Turns: Players take turns throwing the throwing pin at the numbered pins, aiming to knock them over.

Scoring:
If a player knocks over one pin, they score the number of points marked on that pin.
If multiple pins are knocked over, the score is equal to the number of pins knocked down (e.g., knocking down 3 pins scores 3 points).

So the above diagram scores ..... that is right 5 points.
Stand the Pins Back Up: After each throw, stand the pins back up exactly where they landed. This spreads out the pins, making the game progressively more challenging.
Winning the Game: The first player or team to score exactly 50 points wins. If a player’s score exceeds 50, their score is reduced to 25, and they must work their way back up.
